An orientation programme on Disaster Preparedness and Resilience was held in Shree Sharaswati Secondary School Kalyan and Khaddevi Secondary school Satakhani in July. The programme was organized by Sagoal and facilitators came from Nepal Red cross Society Surkhet to run the scheduled sessions. In total 96 students from grade 8 and 9 participated. Topics included were:-
- An introduction to Disaster and;
- The role of youth before, during and after a disaster
Students were excited to participate in the workshop and learnt a lot about disasters. At the end teachers from local schools also appreciated the programme and realised the importance to understand this topic in order to minimize any loss caused by the disaster in their areas in terms of being able to offer a quick response to save lives of people, livestock and protect crops and buildings form further damage and destruction.
